Participants met at USC Salkahatchie for the workshop to learn more about how to write compelling grant applications. South Carolina native Patrick Patterson of Global Partners for Fathers & Families taught the class, which was funded through a technical training grant to the Center by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Department of Labor funding to help with training in Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell counties
JULY 27, 2016 — A national workforce development organization has received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help 18- to 24-year olds in Allendale, Bamberg and Barnwell counties get job training for a path to meaningful employment.
“This is a great program and opportunity for the young adults and communities in which they live,”said Jonathan Zeigler, vice president of operations for Paxen, an affiliation of Florida-based Eckerd, which is a nationally-recognized nonprofit child and family services organization. Read more
Allendale to get help for farmers market; targeted farmers to get training
OCT. 6, 2015 — Two new agriculture-related federal grants worth more than $161,000 will help farmers and communities in the South Carolina Lowcountry Promise Zone through education and marketing efforts for locally-grown food, officials said today.
“One grant will allow targeted farmers and ranchers in the Promise Zone get risk management education that will help them make good decisions as they build sustainable and profitable agricultural businesses,” said Danny Black, president and CEO of SouthernCarolina Alliance, the lead organization for the Promise Zone. “Another will help support marketing efforts for locally-grown food at a farmers market in Allendale.
