South Carolina Office of Innovation plans workshop series as part of 3Phase initiative
Events to assist South Carolina businesses successfully acquire federal grant awards
COLUMBIA, S.C. — As part of its new 3Phase initiative, the Office of Innovation at the S.C. Department of Commerce today announced a workshop series aimed at educating attendees on how to write grant applications for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants. Taking place on Monday, July 23 in North Charleston, S.C., the inaugural workshop will include a networking lunch and individualized 30-minute consulting sessions.
Announced earlier this year, 3Phase is a new resource for South Carolina companies. The SBIR and STTR programs require eligible governmental agencies to set aside a percentage of their budgets toward small businesses in the creation of innovative, disruptive technologies, which displace established technologies and shake up the industry. The aim of the SBIR and STTR programs is to get these discoveries out of the lab and into the market. 3Phase will provide training and workshops throughout the state on how South Carolina companies can successfully take advantage of these grant programs. 3Phase will also manage the application process for a portfolio of firms. Both of these services are provided at no cost to participants.
“At S.C. Commerce, our job is to support business growth in South Carolina. A critical component of this effort is connecting in-state companies and entrepreneurs with resources that will help them succeed,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. “The 3Phase initiative, and these workshops specifically, will help us do just that.”

Additional details on that event, as well as future workshop dates, will be provided in the months ahead. For more information on 3Phase, visit www.3phasesc.com.
