Eat Smart Move More South Carolina’s (ESMMSC) mission is to make the healthy choice the easy choice for all South Carolinians. ESMMSC has been working to create more access to healthy foods at the state and local level for several years. With established local, trustworthy relationships, ESMMSC wants to help people struggling to find healthy options to feed their families.
In recent weeks due to COVID-19, ESMMSC has identified gaps in food distribution services that include staffing, equipment, transportation, physical distribution, public-private partnerships, and planning.
Through funds received from the OneSC Fund, ESMMSC is implementing a rapid response mini-grant opportunity up to $3,000 each to be used to meet the immediate needs of communities that are not being reached by the four primary food banks. These mini-grants are being offered as a result of COVID-19 pandemic to local emergency food providers and distribution hubs that may include but are not limited to local non-profits, daycare centers, schools, places of faith, neighborhood associations, and community centers.
The goal of these funds is to meet the immediate needs of people with limited resources due to loss of employment and/or sources of healthy food not being available due to the pandemic.
Mini-grants will be awarded on Fridays of each week beginning May 8. Final reports from mini-grant recipients are due within 4 weeks of funds being received.
